dancemaker post: motion notes from diani

A collage-in-motion of movement research notes for my Creatures of Habitat Physical Poetry PUBLIC Performance Project’s AUTO MOBILE BODY WORKSwhich consists of dance video projected in parking lots, on asphalt, on the sides of buildings and other structures– live performance in car wash bays–and vehicle + human duets in parking garages.

Take a peek at the images, qualities and ideas I explored while utilizing the habitat of Galu Beach in Diani (Kenya) as my studio for 5 days. And then stay tuned for the next showing of this work that requires the audience to travel from location to location…moving.

    Finish it.

Take out a few of the more conventional moves, watch and listen a few more times. Fill out the rest of the song.

    You have a genius video

    Huzzah!

    Yay!

ha! are you telling me what to do…before asking more about what i am doing? the nerve. just tell me your experience with it.

“conventional” is all part of this aspect of the research.
it’s there on purpose. so, i guess it worked.

just a few words from my written notes: fierce lines, sketching, kicking up, kicking in gear, spinning your wheels, jumping it, jumpstart, backing up, driving by, window seat. (there is much more….)

the song will not be there forever, or probably ever again….it’s just there for now…..

    process, process, process….

    (thanks nick 🙂

    what are you doing?
    (ha)
    so beautiful…..mesmerized by the moves
    keep spinning!

  4. Stefanie says:

    yeah, what am i doing?

    sweet. wordless.

Now I can say: I’m sorry.

I knew it would seem presumptuous, but I went ahead anyway.

To clarify: I meant for this to be a stand-alone video, with little if any reference to the final work. Just a radically different interpretation of Hendrix’s masterpiece.
The most of it is so innovative I felt brought back to Earth (no pun intended) by the more “balletic” moves. However seeing now your notes, I see the connection with the wheels and velocity of the car. Very well done.

If you think of this video as about planets rather than about cars…

Please watch it again, bestow it on the world; Youtube not Vimeo

    Love,
    Nick

    planets! stellar!
my ideas don’t have to be the viewers ideas.
i like what you often see.

i watch it a lot. yes. and the longer clips from where it all came from.
i see different stuff each time, and a lot of the same too.
i like these kind of pieces along the way…to the more finalized piece.
